I have to say, writing an “about me” page is probably one of the most uncomfortable tasks one has to do as a blogger….but here it goes!
Hi, my name is Jahaila (pronounced ja-hi-la) and I am the creator of Girl Nesting!
Girl Nesting is all of the modern elements that come together in making our home feel like a home – hence the word “nesting”. I love sharing my finds on products I use in our home that are modern / functional. Follow our journey as new parents while enjoying healthy food. I’m married to my best friend Michael who has been the biggest supporter in my life. We have two wonderful daughters, Zoë (age 4) and Skye (2 months old). They are both our miracle babies (see our story here) that we adore to the moon and back. Check out our adventures as a family as well as the places Michael and I venture off to for our dates.
We may be parents, but we’re still pretty cool 😉
I’m a former ballet dancer of 12 years. I studied at Ruth Page here in Chicago, and danced professional ballets such as Nutcracker and La Sil Fied; directed and choreographed by Mikhail Baryshnikov. Baryshnikov was in fact my very first employer at the age of 11. My Mother would be very upset if I didn’t include that bit of information 😉
I am also currently a fashion model through Ford Models, and have been for the past 23 years. I started when I was a young teen, working for catalog clients such as Macy’s, Target, Carson Pirie Scott, Nordstrom’s, Saks Fifth Ave, J.Crew, Otto and Jockey. I worked on campaigns such as Revlon, L’Oréal and Baby Phat. Did runway for clients such as Tommy Hilfiger. I also appeared in commercials such as Macy’s, Burdines, Kohl’s and Bud Light.
I studied photography and writing at Colombia College of Chicago. I studied interior design architecture at Harrington College of Design; where I won 1st place for the Mortise and Tenon furniture design competition for my sofa design titled, “Chloe”.
I am very proud of my nationalities. Being multi-raced is a big part of who I am. It’s quite the list…o.k ready?
Nicaraguan, Chinese, English, Trinidadian and Venezuelan.
Mike’s Nationalities: German, Dutch and Lebanese.
Zoë and Skye are: All the above, but more importantly they are the most wonderful blessings in our lives.
Our Pug Chloe is: Chinese ;)…and yes, Zoë and Chloe names rhyme.. and yes, it’s totally confusing at times (we didn’t think that one through lol). Chloe is our “first-born” and we just adore her.
This is America for ya! A wonderful melting pot 🙂
On top of all that, I have a huge passion for textile design! My designs can be purchased here:
